Doña Perfecta

Written by Spanish novelist Benito Pérez Galdós, Doña Perfecta tells the story of Pepe Rey, a young engineer who travels to the small town of Orbajosa to marry his cousin Rosario. He expects a warm welcome, but soon discovers that his modern ideas and independent nature are deeply unwelcome in a community ruled by tradition, religion, and suspicion.

As tension grows between Pepe and Rosario's powerful mother, Doña Perfecta, their planned marriage becomes part of a much larger conflict. Sharp, dramatic, and full of hidden hostility, Doña Perfecta is a powerful story about love, family control, prejudice, and the dangerous consequences of intolerance.
