When two young British officers are captured behind American lines, quick-thinking young soldier Bob Chester and his comrade Lieutenant Marcel seize a bold opportunity: slipping into the captives' scarlet uniforms and walking straight into the heart of the enemy camp. What starts as a daring gambit to gather intelligence for the American cause soon tangles Chester in mistaken identity, narrow escapes, and questions of honor he never expected. Set against the sweeping backdrop of the American Revolutionary War and building toward the fateful Battle of Monmouth, Joseph A. Altsheler's In Hostile Red is a brisk, high-stakes tale of disguise and daring. First published in 1903 by the author of The Sun of Saratoga and Before the Dawn, it's a vivid, page-turning tribute to the young soldiers who risked everything for a fledgling nation's freedom.
