About

He got the worst class in the apocalypse. He's using it to make sure it doesn't matter.

When the sky tears open and reality starts handing out video-game powers to survive a monster-infested wasteland, everyone wants an S-tier class: dragon riders, spell-slinging warlords, world-eating swordsmen.

Eli Vance gets Custodian. F-Tier. "No offensive multipliers. No exploration bonuses. Recommend reassignment to support labor."

It's a joke. The whole city agrees, and half of them post it online before lunch.

But Eli's spent twelve years as the superintendent of a rundown apartment building, and it turns out "manages and repairs a Structure" means something very different when the Structure is home to forty-one people who have nowhere else to go. Boilers become ward-engines. Locked doors start meaning it. And Eli discovers his F-tier power doesn't scale with kills, it scales with how many people, behind his walls, actually feel safe.

That's good, because he's going to need every scrap of it. A ruthless bureaucracy is grading every building in the district, and marking his for demolition. A warlord from his own military past wants him to abandon his tenants for a better offer. And something enormous is waking up in the Rift at the center of the city, drawn to the one thing Eli refuses to stop giving away for free.

Maintenance Mode is a System-Apocalypse LitRPG about the found family you'd burn the world down to protect, and the "trash tier" power that turns out to mean everything, if you're brave enough to actually use it.

Perfect for fans of Dungeon Crawler Carl, The Wandering Inn, and any progression fantasy where the real levels are the people you refuse to leave behind.
