17-year-old Ezra Benteen, haunted by the murder of his Lenape Indian mother, is on a journey with his hell-bent father Abe through the unforgiving frontier, attached to fur trappers headed for the great Mandan trading village on the Missouri River. But when the elder Benteen perishes in the wilderness, young Ezra's last trace of boyhood is shattered. Forced to complete his father's mission, he's stunned to find the Mandan tribe waiting on him, believing Ezra to be the incarnation of their village shaman's dream . . . the Powerful One.
Adopted by the Mandan, Ezra learns the tribe's lifeways, falling in love with their people and the wide-open spaces of the American West. When an impending massacre threatens the Mandan's peaceful existence, Ezra must decide who he really is and where his destiny lies-and find the courage to follow it.
A feast for those who love sweeping historical epics, Rising Lion-Ascending Moon is a masterful tale of adventure, wonder and romance, packed with fierce compelling characters. You'll find it impossible to lay aside.
