With wry stories from his down-to-earth personal life and cutting-edge TV career, Fox News anchor Trace Gallagher reveals how the best advice sometimes comes from the most unexpected places.
Dive into the real stories behind the headlines with Trace Gallagher, the Fox News @ Night anchor who brings genuine heart and humor to the day's news. In “Turns Out They Were Right All Along”, he pulls back the curtain on a life shaped by singular people, memorable disasters, and wisdom discovered when you least expect it.
Meet fourteen-year-old “Tracy Boy,” scraping together $250 to attend John Wooden's storied basketball camp. With his sights set on becoming an NBA champ, the teen can't wait to hear secrets from the legendary coach. Yet Wooden's only appearance lasts a few minutes, and his advice—always practice in two pairs of socks to avoid blisters—is underwhelming to the impressionable adolescent. In hindsight, these seemingly inconsequential words guided Gallagher throughout his life. The deeper message, about being prepared to work your butt off on the fundamentals, affected him even more.
Grab a life jacket as the future anchor recounts his years as a professional water skier—the unsuccessful stunts, wipeouts, and face-plants that required more Tylenol than training, and the time he failed spectacularly to teach superstar Jimmy Buffett to water ski. Cringe along as the world's worst (and best) dog—a yellow Lab named Jack—chews walls, furniture, boats, and sanity, while teaching the Gallagher family about unconditional love and unique levels of chaos. For Trace and his wife Tracy (yes, they share the same name), Jack was more than a pet; he was a lesson in patience, optimism, and finding joy in a disaster zone.
With his trademark openness, Gallagher shares the decision that nearly ended his TV life just as it was taking off. It was a stand that could've been his undoing but became a moment that defined his ground-breaking career.
Funny, smart, and thoroughly revealing, “Turns Out They Were Right All Along” brings readers into the life of one of TV's most admired news stars and demonstrates why sometimes the quirkiest lessons—and the wildest stories—leave the deepest marks on your feet and your future.
