About

Lil' Cub is a small Piper Cub airplane. In this first book, the story is all about the Mercy Flight. It's a sunny day, and Lil' Cub is flying over the neighborhood looking for someone to play with. Lil' Cub spots his friend Bently. Bently is a helicopter. Bently tells Lil' Cub that he has been sent by Mr. Dispatcher to find him, as there is a very important job for him to do. Lil' Cub finds Mr. Dispatcher at the door to the hangar. Mr. Dispatcher tells Lil' Cub he is perfect for the job that needs to be done because he is small. The job is delivering medical supplies to Doc Bowing on the high desert. Lil' Cub feels honored to have been asked to do this Mercy Flight and tells Mr. Dispatcher that he is more than willing to do the job. Lil' Cub sets off on his mission and, during the flight, encounters some bad weather and high winds. Lil' Cub talks to himself and says he must keep on going, for people are counting on him to deliver this medicine. With each new obstacle that confronts him, Lil' Cub tells himself (over and over) "I can make it! I can make it!" After a very long flight, Lil' Cub comes to the place where Doc Bowing is waiting. Doctor Bowing is very happy to see that Lil' Cub has made it safely and thanks Lil' Cub for completing the mission. When Lil' Cub returns home, his friend Bently is waiting for him, and Bently tells Lil' Cub that he is a hero! Lil' Cub replies that he feels very good because even though he is very small, he was able to help many people by delivering the much-needed medicine.
