The People of the Pit

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice. Deep in the unmapped Alaskan north, two gold prospectors camp in sight of a mountain shaped like a vast reaching hand – and watch in horror as a shaft of unearthly light stabs the sky and a broken thing crawls into their firelight. It is a man, his hands worn to the bone from endless climbing, a band of strange yellow metal locked about his waist. Before he dies he tells them what lies between the five peaks: a pit deeper than any canyon, a stairway carved down into the dark, and at the bottom a primeval city ruled by glowing, half-seen horrors who summon their prey with an unbearable chant. He escaped them – but the chant still calls, and the things in the pit do not forgive what crawls away.
