About
There was a time when Amelia Brooks woke to the sound of applause. Now, she wakes to the silence of a house filled with ghosts.
For decades, Amelia lived a life entirely consumed by the stage. From demanding directors and chaotic touring schedules to the electric thrill of a captivated audience, she traded her physical well-being for the magic of the theater. But when an unexpected neurological diagnosis forces the curtain to drop on her career forever, she is left stranded in the stillness she spent her whole life running from.
Surrounded by precarious towers of old journals-written in dressing rooms, tour buses, and lonely hotels-Amelia is forced to confront the person she used to be. Encouraged by an observant archivist, she begins to read through the years. What she finds isn't the triumphant story of a dedicated artist, but a profound and painful record of a body sending quiet warnings long before it finally broke.
The Quiet Between Applause is a deeply moving exploration of identity, memory, and the unseen costs of ambition. Ryan Easteday crafts an elegant, melancholic masterpiece about a woman learning that the most powerful performance of her life might be the one where she finally steps out of the spotlight and into her own truth.
