Since the dawn of recorded history, religion has been a consistent feature of virtually every human society. This is true even now where, despite the discoveries of modern science, the major faiths of mankind each number their adherents in the hundreds of millions. But unfortunately, during this entire time, strife between the various religions and their sects, and between religion and science, has been a persistent occurrence. And in recent times, where there exist tens of thousands of nuclear weapons ready to be launched on a moment's notice, and fanatical terrorists trying their best to obtain them, we are threatened with catastrophic destruction on a scale never seen before.
