Real influence isn't performed. It's felt before you say a word.
You have built your skills, sharpened your strategy, earned the title, and polished the message. Yet something still falls flat. The room stays guarded. Trust remains thin. People comply but never truly move. You sense that your usual way of operating has stopped working, and no amount of better technique, stronger arguments, or louder certainty is going to fix it. The problem is not what you are doing. The problem is where you are leading from.
Below the Waterline reveals that the most powerful dimension of influence is invisible. It lives beneath the surface, in your presence, integrity, emotional steadiness, and capacity to create trust. Drawing on decades of work with leaders, teams, and organizations navigating conflict and change, Thom Walters shows why force is most often just fear in a better suit, and why genuine authority comes not from control but from alignment. Through vivid stories and reflective insight, he examines the patterns that silently erode our power: scarcity, defensiveness, the compulsive need to be right, fear of vulnerability, and the discomfort of not knowing.
Inside you will discover:
• Why who you are being always speaks louder than what you are doing, and how to close the gap between performance and presence
• How to hold creative tension, set honest boundaries, and lead from understanding rather than reactivity
• A practical path to the kind of influence that does not require force to be felt
