About

《美高哲学衔接手册》(A Bridge to U.S.

A Bridge to U.S. High School Philosophy (《美高哲学衔接手册》) is a bilingual Chinese-English handbook that prepares Chinese-native students for the philosophy classroom of a U.S. high school. It assumes no prior background and starts from zero.

Its central conviction is simple: the heart of philosophy is the argument, not the conclusion. Rather than asking students to memorize what famous thinkers "believed," this book trains a transferable skill-how to reconstruct any claim into premises and a conclusion, test it for validity and soundness, expose hidden assumptions, and raise the strongest objections. Every idea is rebuilt as a structure you can evaluate for yourself.

The book bridges from everyday puzzles ("How do I know I'm not dreaming?") to the professional questions behind them, and covers the full introductory landscape: what philosophy is, critical thinking and writing, world and classical traditions, logic, metaphysics, epistemology, value theory, normative and applied ethics, political philosophy, and contemporary thought.

On every contested question-the existence of God, right and wrong, justice, competing social theories-the book presents each position's strongest case (steelman) alongside its main objections, without taking sides. Features include original thought experiments, side-by-side bilingual terminology, and word-root footnotes that make new vocabulary stick.
