The first moves of a chess game are termed the opening or opening moves. A good chess opening will provide protection of the king, adequate control over an area of the board (particularly the center), create greater movement for the pieces, and open possible opportunities to capture opposing pawns and pieces.
This book, while also explaining some fundamental principles of chess, will focus primarily on these opening sequences.
While the obvious goal of chess is to checkmate your opponent, we must first put ourselves in a position to do so. That's where chess openings play a vitally important role - especially when first learning the game of chess!
Inside this book, you will discover a variety of different opening sequences that you, as a beginner, can begin using right away. If you're a beginner looking to improve your skills as a chess player, then mastering these key principles and opening strategies is without a doubt the best place to begin!
