About

Class Action is a memoir about the experiences, convictions, and community connections that led to the creation of Citizens of the World, Inc. Through the story of one educator's journey, it explores what happens when the realities facing young people collide with the limits of the institutions designed to serve them.
Raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Kyrk Morris built a career working with youth and families across education, juvenile justice, and restorative justice. His experiences revealed the challenges confronting young people-particularly Black and Brown students-and the importance of creating opportunities for them to learn, grow, and envision a future beyond the boundaries others may place around them.
Those experiences helped inspire Citizens of the World, a nonprofit organization founded to expand access to educational, enrichment, and recreational opportunities. What began as a response to unmet community needs grew into a broader commitment to supporting young people and families through exposure, education, and connection.
In Class Action, Morris reflects on the personal and professional experiences behind that work: the difficult lessons, the relationships, the setbacks, and the determination required to turn an idea into an organization. The memoir considers the role of educators, communities, and individuals in shaping young people's futures-and asks what becomes possible when people choose to act rather than accept the status quo.
Part personal story and part account of community-building, Class Action offers an intimate look at the experiences that shaped Morris's commitment to young people and the founding of Citizens of the World. It is a story about purpose, responsibility, and the belief that meaningful change begins when people come together to create something better.
