I never expected to spend a year sleeping in my car.
But after discovering the RV my son, and I had been living in was filled with toxic mold, I made a choice: leave almost everything behind, or risk our health getting worse. We chose to leave.
Homeless is my true story of walking away from a mold-infested home, navigating housing instability across multiple states, and learning how to survive and heal while living out of a vehicle with my child and our dog.
This book is both a memoir and a practical guide. Inside, I share: • What toxic mold exposure did to my health • How I began detoxing and rebuilding my body • The healing protocols and dietary changes that helped me • The emotional toll of instability, and how we stayed strong • The day-to-day logistics of safely sleeping in a car • Tips for hygiene, safety, organization, food, and parking locations • What I wish I had known before becoming homeless • Living in a car is not easy. It requires creativity, humility, and resilience. But it also taught me powerful lessons about independence, faith, and how little we truly need to survive. This isn't just a story about losing housing.
It's a story about protecting my child's health. It's a story about starting over from scratch. It's a story about choosing courage over comfort. If you are facing homelessness, recovering from mold illness, or rebuilding your life after everything fell apart, I hope my experience offers both comfort and practical guidance.
Sometimes the most transformational journeys begin the moment you decide to walk away from what's making you sick.
This was my year in the car. And the beginning of our healing.
