An intimate portrait of one of the most stunning alpine landscapes on Earth. Tucked within Yoho National Park in the Canadian Rockies, Lake O'Hara is a place of rare beauty and deep history. In Lake O'Hara: Secluded Jewel of the Canadian Rockies, award-winning photographer Scott Forsyth captures this backcountry paradise in breathtaking detail - from mirrored reflections on the lake's surface to the rugged silhouettes of Wiwaxy Peaks and Odaray Mountain.
More than a photographic showcase, this book is a rich exploration of place. Geologist Dr. Marc St-Onge brings Lake O'Hara's dramatic landscapes to life with clear and compelling insights into their ancient origins. Learn how shifting continents, vanished oceans, and the immense power of time carved the peaks and valleys of this alpine sanctuary.
Readers will uncover stories of the people drawn to these mountains: Indigenous communities with deep-rooted ties to the land, and early explorers and artists - including Group of Seven painter J.E.H. MacDonald - who sought inspiration in the sublime.
Detailed chapters featuring over 200 stunning photographs highlight Lake O'Hara's most iconic hiking routes and vantage points, including Lake Oesa, the Opabin Plateau, Lake McArthur, the Lake O'Hara Alpine Circuit, and a climb up Wiwaxy Peaks. Whether you're planning a visit or seeking a stunning armchair escape, this book offers an unforgettable journey into one of Canada's most cherished wilderness areas.
