Heather stopped believing in fairytales a long time ago.
Love has never meant safety in her world. After her father gambles away more than he can afford to lose, Heather finds herself trapped aboard a pirate ship and at the mercy of a ruthless captain who believes everything, and everyone, can be owned.
Then she meets Sebastian. A smart-mouthed, strangely intelligent parrot with an attitude far too big for his feathers. He makes her laugh when she has forgotten how. Stays close when the nights become unbearable. And somehow, amongst pirates, violence and a life she never chose, he becomes the one thing Heather never expected to find.
A friend.
But there is something different about Sebastian. Something impossible. And when witches, curses and dangerous magic begin to unravel the world around them, Heather discovers that the fairytales she stopped believing in may be far more real, and far darker than she ever imagined.
Escaping captivity is only the beginning. Because some cages have bars. Others are built from fear. And sometimes, the most beautiful thing you can find inside a nightmare is someone who reminds you how to be free.
A dark, emotional fairytale reimagining filled with pirates, witches, cursed magic, trauma, healing, unexpected humour and a love story born in the most unlikely of places.
