About

Re-Entry Wounds & The Binding Interstice brings together two interconnected poetry sequences concerned with alienation, vulnerability, intimacy and the difficult search for authentic human connection.

In Re-Entry Wounds, the individual returns to a world that seems simultaneously familiar and profoundly estranged. Social conventions become absurd rituals; work, status, ideology and conformity grind against the desire for freedom; relationships fail to provide the connection they promise. The result is a poetry of collision.

Moving through descent, burn, impact, echo and scar, the sequence shifts between philosophical reflection, grotesque imagery, cultural satire, anger and exposed vulnerability. Modern life appears as a landscape populated by institutions, workplaces, consumer identities, inherited beliefs and people struggling to communicate across apparently incompatible realities. Beneath its confrontational surface, however, lies a persistent longing to connect.

Isolation gradually gives way to something unexpected: love. The defensive voice begins to relinquish its armour. Desire, tenderness and emotional exposure emerge from beneath the satire, culminating in poems that risk precisely the vulnerability against which much of the earlier sequence appears to defend itself.

The Binding Interstice begins within that opening.

Here the focus turns towards the strange territory existing between two people: the interstice in which attraction, imagination, memory, sexuality, fear and emotional recognition become entangled. Love is ecstatic but unstable, capable of creating extraordinary feelings of union while exposing the individual to uncertainty, projection and loss.

The poems move from contact into orbit: two consciousnesses circling the possibility of convergence. Intimacy becomes something simultaneously physical, psychological and metaphysical.

Bodies, minds and souls threaten to merge, yet the external world continually intrudes.

Politics, religion, technology, authority and inherited systems of belief enter this intimate territory. The private and public worlds become inseparable. Questions about power and conformity become questions about how human beings relate to one another, what they are taught to fear, and whether genuine connection can survive the structures imposed upon it.

The collection ultimately arrives not at certainty but at discernment. Wounds may be sutured, but sutures do not necessarily heal. Bonds may connect people without truly holding them together. Beliefs may offer coherence while concealing emptiness. Love may illuminate without resolving everything it touches.

Moving between the abrasive and the tender, the satirical and the devotional, Re-Entry Wounds & The Binding Interstice documents a consciousness attempting first to survive the world and then to participate in it again.

It is a collection about being wounded by contact, starving for connection, surrendering to love, confronting the forces that interfere with intimacy, and discovering that neither isolation nor union provides simple answers.

What remains is the interstice itself: the fragile space between self and other, wound and healing, separation and belonging.
