What remains after a life doesn't go the way you thought it would?
REMNANTS is not quite a memoir. Not quite poetry. Not quite anything that fits neatly into a box.
It is a collection of memories, stories, random thoughts, and emotions written across years of a life that was anything but simple.
Lindsey Dunlop writes about childhood and family secrets, love and betrayal, motherhood, mental illness, addiction, grief, relationships, nursing, jail, loss, survival, and the strange moments of humor that somehow exist in the middle of absolute chaos.
Some pieces were written while she was living through the moment. Others came years later, when she finally had enough distance to look back and understand what remained.
There are stories she is proud of.
There are things she probably should have kept to herself.
There are moments that are funny, painful, uncomfortable, irrational, loving, angry, and brutally vulnerable.
And none of it has been cleaned up into a perfect story of overcoming adversity.
Because that isn't what happened.
REMNANTS is about falling apart and continuing anyway. About loving people who hurt you, hurting people you love, losing people you thought would always be there, making terrible decisions, surviving the consequences, raising children, starting over, and slowly learning that being complicated doesn't mean being unworthy.
These are her remnants.
