As a teen, Haylie Pantone moved to the bustling city of New York, far from what she had with her aunt and uncle, in a sedate suburban town in Indiana.
However, living here was not kind, with her finding nothing but rejection, as the now twenty-three-year-old fought relentlessly for any form of validation. That was until a substantial offer came her way.
The lucrative proposal, a perk-filled position entailed dressing the part every day, with her having a beautiful place to lay her head, all while being just one of the many assistants.
The young woman couldn't help but view the money as a way to beat the city that didn't care if she was part of it or not. Haylie only pictured the dollar signs, realizing she could have that large bank account, while sleeping on a real bed, unlike the couch she had spent the last two years on.
In hindsight, Haylie wished she had listened to her conscience before signing her life away. But instead, she found out that she had to relinquish everything at the door--her mind, body, soul, friends, and a prize possession she had since birth.
