Paul's depiction of sin in Romans 5-8 is the subject of much debate. While many scholars read Paul's language as an example of philosophical personification, others understand his presentation as finding its home within Jewish apocalypticism. As a result, some interpreters of Romans are content to describe sin as human behavior, whereas others conclude that sin should also be thought of as some kind of superhuman power. In this book, Benjamin M. Leighton places Paul among the philosophers and the apocalypses, exploring how Paul makes use of Jewish and Greco-Roman conventions to articulate the role of sin in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
