About
Just as many people are known to talk in their sleep, Jake Marquette has somehow gained the ability to sketch pictures while he's dreaming. It doesn't happen every night, and it's not always a clear image. Often, he'll go weeks between creating generic doodles on a pad of paper. Every evening, just in case, he goes to sleep with a sketch pad and a few pencils on his nightstand. Right now, though, he's sketched four nights in a row and the subject is always the same.
The woman in chains.
He doesn't know who she is, but he knows he needs to help her. Aided by his two closest friends, Jake departs on a cross-country adventure to see what has been leading to the series of sketches-the woman, a pirate ship, a death's head flag, a jewel-encrusted necklace. The novel "Sketch" tells two stories at once-the kidnapping and ransom of a princess in 1684 and Jake's attempt to figure out what happened to her in the present day.
