Practical, image-driven reference to male and female reproduction, neonatology, and assisted reproductive technologies in sheep and goats
Small Ruminant Theriogenology is a practical and concise but complete reference to managing reproductive health in sheep and goats. Logically organized into sections on male reproduction, neonatology, and assisted reproductive technologies, the book summarizes current knowledge on all aspects of theriogenology in small ruminants. A separate section covers reproductive patterns in cervids and some wild ruminants.
The book presents detailed practical guidance for managing reproductive medicine, surgery, and breeding in these species. Hundreds of full-color images depict the concepts discussed.
Small Ruminant Theriogenology discusses topics including:
• Male anatomy, reproductive physiology, breeding soundness examination, and congenital and acquired disorders in the male
• Female anatomy, seasonality, ovarian cyclicity, fertilization and establishment of pregnancy
• Reproductive disorders in the female, including congenital and acquired infertility, abortive diseases, dystocia, and postpartum disorders
• Neonatal care and neonatal problems
• Chapters entirely dedicated to a detailed discussion of surgeries of the reproduction system in males and females including laparoscopic techniques
• Reproductive management, including strategies to improve herd and flock fertility, vaccination, pregnancy diagnosis, and management of parturition
• Assisted reproductive technologies, including estrus synchronization protocols, semen preservation and artificial insemination, embryo transfer, and in vitro embryo production
Small Ruminant Theriogenology is an important resource for any veterinarian involved with reproductive health in sheep and goats.
