About
A New Adult Temporal-Opera Dark Sci-Fantasy and the first in a planned trilogy, The Age of Basilisk.
"I remember the rain, except for the phantom rain in our heads. We never grow old... but wait-how could we never grow old? What happens when you age? What happens when time actually moves? I don't remember what time looks like anymore. We don't age. Nobody in this entire world ages. Time is sealed in amber. I remember a world where time moved forward! Where people grew old! Where we suffered, but we lived!"
The Age of Basilisk is a new trilogy in the Age of Fate series by J Edward Powell. Covering the next chapter of the series.
It is set in a universe where celestial pantheons rule in separate 1,000-year epochs and wage war to dethrone the current gods. The mortal princess Andrea of Astroia possesses never-before-seen godly powers, world-building abilities, and the ability to time travel. When she is thrust into a realm she created, Andrea discovers she is destined to become the next ruling deity.
FATE, the current god, has been usurped by a corrupt, demonic goddess who splintered from FATE's being and requires a goddess's help to rule the multiverse; in doing so, they will create The Basilisk, a tyrannical ruler of the multiverse and time itself.
In another subplot, deep in the mortal world, we find Lord Elkin, a human whose obsession with power makes him inhuman. First, he must overcome several obstacles on his path to unlimited power. At first, he seems like a clever, calculating strategist, skillfully advancing his plans to reach a position in the empire from which he can rule the entire world. However, the closer he gets to power, the more he sees through the eyes of higher beings, and the more he understands the inner secrets of the gods. By looking into the heart of the divine, he loses his mind and becomes an insane fanatic.
Age of Basilisk I-The Continuum is an epic dark fantasy novel that blends steampunk elements and Industrial Revolution technology with political machinations, romantasy, mythology, and existential themes, driven by a coming-of-age story and time dilation in the multiverse.
A blend of the cosmic mystery of The City of Brass with the reality-bending loss of The Midnight Library, with the emotional cost of refusing to let go and the cost of cosmic stasis. And the divine struggle of gods, like Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.
