After an earthquake, the land of the Gold People opens for Meggin, Stephanie and Beam. There, they encounter an ally, a dog-like Sphinx, and an enemy, a giant snake which has swallowed the Gold People. The three are challenged to free the Gold People and kill the source of the snakes, the Wormsak, who keeps victims alive within itself. The surprise ending shows the way in which fantasy can pour out into reality.
