A city-bred bride is carried off to a homestead on the Canadian prairie and writes home about the winters, the money and the man. Stringer had a farm in Alberta himself and wrote the book as her diary; it was popular enough that he twice returned to her. This edition adds 53 plates of painting from 1894–1925, among them Munch, Bellows and Sargent, alongside four restored and coloured illustrations.
