What had been a rescue mission has become a hit job.
Special Agent Amir Duran can't wrap his head around any of it. First, his boss tells him about the boy down in Zanzibar. He's immune, she says-immune to the Red Death. A potential cure for the most catastrophic disease in human history? If that weren't enough to blow Amir's mind, she lets him know who the brass back in London have chosen to chase the kid down. And, quick-the Russians and Japanese are after the boy too.
None of it computes. Just a year ago Amir was still a cop keeping the peace in the squalid slums of Granada, Spain. He hasn't even travelled outside the city since the British invaded when he was a kid. And now they've chosen him-a brand new case officer without an ounce of international field experience-to spearhead the most important covert op in decades. Amir's late grandfather, Jeddo, always warned him about the British. They can't be trusted. All they care about is conquest. But orders are orders, and Amir can handle himself in dangerous situations.
When Amir arrives in Zanzibar, though, Jeddo's paranoia begins to ring of prophecy. London's orders have changed. With a ruthless killer on his trail, Amir must call on an unlikely assortment of friends and strangers to get the boy out alive.
