The Watchers

When a massive wildfire tears through the Santa Lucia Mountains, veteran firefighter Ethan Reyes knows the signs of a bad burn. What he doesn't expect is the figure on the ridge - tall, unmoving, watching the flames as if they mean nothing. Moments later, the fire turns unpredictable, the smoke closes in, and Ethan vanishes.Three days later, he walks out of the wilderness without a burn, without an injury… and without any memory of where he's been.Everyone wants answers. Ethan has none. All he can recall are fragments: a ridge that shouldn't exist, a school long abandoned, and people he remembers as clearly as yesterday - people who aren't there anymore. As strange details surface, it becomes clear his disappearance wasn't a simple case of getting lost. Something in those mountains followed him out. Something old. Something patient.Locals have whispered about the Dark Watchers for generations - silent figures seen on ridgelines, appearing before danger strikes. Ethan always dismissed them as folklore. Now he isn't so sure.Set against the rugged beauty of Big Sur and the relentless threat of wildfire, The Watchers blends atmospheric suspense with creeping supernatural dread. It's a story about the things we see in the smoke, the memories that don't belong to us, and the unsettling truth that some legends don't stay on the mountain.
