About
A poor shoemaker in the forest of Villers-Cotterets sells to the devil the right to wish, one hair at a time, and finds the wolves obeying him. Dumas set it in the woods where he grew up and heard the story from an old family servant as a child. This edition adds A. R. Allinson's translation and a gallery of 58 plates bound with the text, with paintings by Goya, Monet, Larock and Gilsoul.
