In Two Historical Novels, Thomas Sundell brings the past vividly to life through two sweeping stories shaped by war, loyalty, family, and survival.
In Massachusetts in Rebellion, the unrest before the American Revolution reaches deep into everyday lives. Aurelia, an enslaved woman in Deerfield, and Nsketschoktah, a man caught between Native and colonial worlds, are drawn into a time when old orders are breaking and the promise of liberty is shadowed by sacrifice, upheaval, and hard-won change.
In Bastiaen van Kortryk, a veteran of the Napoleonic Wars looks back across the years as memory, duty, and history collide. Moving between Ghent in 1852 and the campaign of 1815, the novel follows Bastiaen through family struggles, business tensions, and the enduring weight of Quatre Bras and Waterloo.
Rich in atmosphere and grounded in the lives of ordinary people living through extraordinary times, these two novels offer an immersive journey into pivotal moments of history-and the human hearts tested within them.
