A text message lands badly. Someone says or does the wrong thing. We find ourselves wanting something to be different, replaying an old hurt, worrying about what might happen, or becoming convinced by a story that may not be quite true. WHEN STUCK HAPPENS is about those moments when reactivity quietly takes the wheel, and how we might loosen its grip.
With warmth and wry, gentle humor, Cathryn Jacob explores why we get caught in familiar patterns, what happens when we stop feeding these patterns, and how even a short pause can leave room for a more thoughtful and caring response.
Grounded in everyday life, rooted in secular Buddhist thought and practice, this is not a book about becoming permanently calm or fixing ourselves. Rather it's a companion for meeting worries, habits, disappointments and difficult relationships with a little more steadiness, curiosity and care.
So when the noise quietens, we may notice what was here all along: the small wonders, unexpected beauty, and moments of quiet awe we can so easily miss.
