It's been a slow start for Samantha Wilde's FBI career, but the indictment of notorious con man Jimmy Bob Baylor and the culmination of her six-month investigation could change everything. Baylor had been cheating rich old widows for decades and this would be his Waterloo. With Baylor's indictment and arrest, she'd probably have a shot at a promotion to the FBI Academy.
When Baylor phones unexpectedly and offers to admit his years of deceit, Samantha knows her career has taken an exciting turn. But finding Baylor's dead and fragmented body in the foyer of his fancy Upper West Side condo dashes her hopes. If it wasn't one of the rich widows, then who murdered him? Was there something she overlooked in her investigation?
Forced to team up with arrogant NYPD Detective Ryan Cooper, Sammy reluctantly shares her leads and her fears that she may have marked Baylor for murder. Was there a deeper story behind Baylor's relationship with vindictive victim Catherine Hamilton? And how does crazy, reclusive silver screen goddess Thalia Swanson figure in?
Retracing her investigation through the streets of 1990's New York City, she discovers many things done right. But her biggest error may cost Samantha her life.
