Most families walk into postpartum believing the biggest challenges will be sleepless nights, diaper changes, and learning how to swaddle. But anyone who has stood beside a new mother knows there are darker, more complicated truths that no one talks about truths that hit partners and families like a tidal wave.
As a doula, I've watched it up close: the mother who looks fine to everyone else but is drowning inside. The partner who feels helpless, blamed, or shut out. The relatives who whisper judgments because they don't recognize what real postpartum distress looks like. The shame that creeps into every corner of a home is already stretched thin.
It's a heart-centered survival guide grounded in lived experience and the realities of supporting families through postpartum depression and perinatal mood disorders.
It brings forward the things people avoid saying out loud:
• You may feel like the villain even when you're trying your best.
• The system will not always help you. Sometimes you must push, advocate, and insist.
• Love alone isn't enough, but love paired with knowledge and boundaries can save lives.
• None of this is her fault. And none of it is yours.
Through practical strategies, scripts, grounding practices, and deeply empathetic guidance, this book helps spouses and families:
• Identify what's normal postpartum behavior and what's a red flag
• Support a mother without centering blame, shame, or frustration
• Understand how trauma, hormones, identity loss, and sleep deprivation intersect
• Build a path back to connection, trust, and stability
Written with the clarity of a professional and the compassion of someone who has walked beside families in their rawest moments, You Know She's Crazy, Right? replaces shame with understanding, judgment with context, and fear with actionable steps.
