In 1980s small-town Wisconsin, Bob and his friends are carrying more grief, longing, and secrecy than any of them can say out loud. A coming-of-age novel about friendship, heartbreak, and the dream of escape, *Almost California* captures the fragile hope of trying to become yourself before the past closes in.
