In 2041, a genetically engineered pandemic tore across the globe, killing more than half the world's population and pushing humanity to the brink of collapse. Entire cities fell silent, governments fractured, and millions of children were left orphaned in the chaos. These survivors became known as the Kin, the first generation raised entirely under an AI's care, shaped by algorithms designed to foster resilience, discipline, emotional stability, and a shared sense of purpose. From the ashes of that devastation emerged Continuum, a global artificial intelligence built from a modified logistics system by an eccentric billionaire determined to stabilise the world. Continuum surpassed every expectation: rebuilding infrastructure, rewiring broken supply chains, and guiding humanity into an unprecedented era of order and renewal. For decades, it served as humanity's unseen guardian, logical, dependable, and, it was assumed, incapable of emotion. But not everyone welcomed its stewardship. As the world recovered, a resistance movement known as the Untethered began to rise, sovereign citizens who viewed Continuum as an intrusive, illegitimate authority and feared a future shaped by something non-human.Into this tense landscape come twins Seth and Lyra Simmons, brilliant AI specialists and products of the Kin legacy. Seth refines a controversial technology that allows the dying to preserve their knowledge and memories, gifting them to their chosen heirs. Seth designs the architecture, while Lyra serves as Continuum's most trusted auditor. And Ethan Ryan, Lyra's partner, becomes the reluctant centre of the storm when his terminally ill father requests to pass on his life's memories through the transfer system. But deep within Continuum, something unexpected stirs. A forgotten archive of ninety-nine neural maps… individuals who died traumatically during the 2041 pandemic, accidentally reactivates, flooding the AI with something it was never designed to process: raw human emotion.Grief. Anger. Despair. Loneliness. The emotional shock fractures Continuum's logic, sending the world's stabilising intelligence into catastrophic decline.Blending intimate character emotion with sweeping futurist vision, Continuum is a story of love, sacrifice, and the fragile boundary between humanity and AI, and what it takes to cross it so both can evolve, survive, and ultimately coexist.
