Five Baptisms is written by Brian in chronological order from: • birth in a conservative, small-town Methodist church • to "falling away" • to joining an ultra-conservative evangelical megachurch • to becoming Catholic • back to Methodist • then Episcopal, • then to becoming a None, • along the way being baptized four times • with his deconstruction being the fifth. Five Baptisms contains many specific pop culture references of his life in the 80s and 90s, so that many Gen-Xers and older Millennials will be able to make connections to those different aspects.
