About

An immersive workbook for artists ready to unlock their unique creative voice and tap into their ultimate superpower-authenticity
No matter where you are on your creative journey, Follow Your Art will help you quiet the outside noise so you can turn up your own creative volume. Created by Ilana Griffo and Katie Johnson-the artists and educators behind @Goodtype, a global community of more than a million lettering lovers and type nerds-this book is packed with prompts, lessons, and real talk to help you reconnect with your why, identify your "special sauce," and start standing out by making work that actually feels like you. With years of experience navigating the highs and hell-no's of creative careers, Ilana and Katie have helped thousands of artists build confidence, grow on their own terms, and find their people. Now they've combined everything they've learned into one joyful, judgment-free workbook designed to help you show up fully, create bravely, and build a creative practice that's truly your own.
Katie Johnson and Ilana Griffo are artists, authors, and the creative duo behind Goodtype-a vibrant community of over one million designers who love typography.
Through Goodtype, they provide education, resources, and inspiration to help other artists thrive doing what they love. They also create collaborative artwork through Goodtype Studio, with past clients including Target, Trader Joe's, Amazon Music, Adobe, Penguin Random House, and more.
Ilana Griffo lives in Rochester, New York, with her bike-racing husband, Gregg, and their two kids. She thrives on bringing order to chaos-a superpower that shows up just as much in her management of Goodtype's inbox as it does in her geometric, pattern-filled illustration work. Her first book, Mind Your Business, is an Amazon bestseller and has been featured in Forbes, Buzzfeed, and more. She's also a big fan of dogs and chocolate, though not at the same time.
Katie Johnson is a hand-lettering artist based in Austin, Texas, where she lives with her musically gifted husband, two cats, and a very beloved Aussiedoodle. Her love of ornament, filigree, and meticulous detail makes her the unofficial manager of minutiae at Goodtype. Though she spent her early years roller skating competitively and performing in every musical she could, these days you're more likely to find her writing songs, bingeing reality TV, or getting lost in an endless queue of fantasy and sci-fi audiobooks.
