Carrie Barclay, a seventeen-year-old high school senior, gifted with brilliant communication skills, struggles with maturity issues and manages, to find trouble because of it. She navigates her world and searches for direction, a good job, and prom date-opportunities arise, which test her resolve. Carrie finds comfort in a best friend, who strongly suggests ancestral research to help find her roots for future direction. Her Uncle Wit has other ideas for her, but making it up as one goes creates a conundrum, especially, when Carrie's mother wants him to have no part in her life.
Through her struggles, she finds a place in her heart for her uncle. Feeling the need to help him find peace and direction, Carrie discovers that her own issues and ways of resolving them are leading her into a new chapter of her life. A small gift from an old friend will eventually solidify why her gift of communication is so important.
