About

From A Black Man's Perspective
HISTORY TO DESTINY is an abundant collection of poetry that spans three decades of life experiences and perspectives of Mr. Larry Ukali Johnson-Redd. It covers a plethora of topics such as racial injustice, police brutality, and economic displacement. It carries a common theme of Black unity, social awareness, and self-love. I was initially reluctant to read the collection, because it is as thick as any novel. But, as I began to read the poems assembled, I respected the author's views on the various subjects covered. The words he utilized were simple, and the subject matter of each poem was always clear. Mr. Johnson-Redd's passion comes across in his poetry, but coupled with the density of the collection, it becomes overwhelming. After completing the series of poems, I sought a lighter subject to relieve the strain. That is not to take away from the value of HISTORY TO DESTINY, just that one must be prepared to enjoy what it has to offer.
