When high school basketball star and ranch hand Haggai Procter backs out of their date to the winter formal, Elli Martin's heart both breaks in heartache and understanding. Haggs's mom needs him, and Elli has lost two mothers. One who went to heaven. The other who abandoned her and has now decided to return. Elli isn't ready to call Lynn "Mom" yet, but the dress she designed for Elli's formal is filled with love. But Haggs won't get to see Elli wearing it. Heartbroken, she can't bring herself to tell anyone she's been stood up.
Between losing the ranch that was to be his, and the possibility of losing his Mom, Haggs isn't feeling the love of God. College, once a bright prospect, is gone. Haggs needs to work, so his Mom won't have to in her final days. He won't have time for winter formals, or anything else. But a casual conversation turns everything around. Haggs and Elli discover life isn't about assumptions, but more about living and loving. And faith not only moves mountains, it can heal the soul.
