Joanna is at a turning point in her life. With both of her younger sisters now married and settled, she finds herself questioning her place in the family and even considering selling the family business. But her plans are interrupted when ten-year-old Freddy unexpectedly enters her world, bringing with him new responsibility-and new emotional complications. Freddy's guardian, his uncle Rudy, is everything Joanna believes she cannot trust: a wandering cowboy who unsettles her deeply and reminds her too much of the father who abandoned her.
Rudy has always preferred a free, unanchored life, keeping his distance from commitments and emotional ties.
