The year is 2000. American historian and academic Dr. Rachel Maldini visits the cathedral city of Durham in the North East of England on a university exchange programme.
Soon she is plunged into a maelstrom of disquieting problems - a frightening recurring dream, an unnerving stalker, images of a hanging man, a head of department who doesn't want her there and the witnessing of a student suicide that isn't as straightforward as it seems.
Along the way, she discovers the disturbing case of a man who was denied sacred monastic sanctuary in the twelfth century. A murder further complicates Rachel's life. And the question she can't escape is: are the ghosts of the past coming back to haunt her?
A supernatural thriller from the author of the best-selling Malmö Mysteries.
