A month from the rite of passage that will mark his transition from boy to man, young Jan is given a task, a man's task, to journey to the nearby village of Miller's Down and settle his father's debt with the blacksmith. But what was supposed to be a simple task quickly turns into a dark and terrifying struggle for survival as Jan learns what it really takes to be a man in a world where death stalks the living with the faces of the people he loves. The Rune that Binds is the first book in the Sommerstone Chronicles, where the promise of immortality, beauty, and undying pleasures, is very real... if one is willing to pay the price.
